Project Description:
SFO is the first airport in North America to ban the use of single-use plastic bottles within the airport. In order to support this initiative, the airport came to the wayfinding team to create, design, and install the new standard for water filling stations across the airport.
The Water Filling Station went through several stages of iteration and ideation. With COVID-19 affecting the mindset of travellers - we had to ensure that the taps were touchless and guest hygiene was a top priority. We also had to ensure that the water filling station, was modular and as a standard could be modified to different site settings across the airport. All these factors, were separately prototyped and approved by the airport and then led to the first-in-place installation at Terminal 2.
Roles and responsibilities:
Designed, coordinated, and implemented the new water filling station at SFO.
Created exhibits for interfacing with a diverse set of stakeholders like DRC, REACH, guest services, landside operations, Terminal systems, Custodial services, etc.
Executed ADA standards, SF city standards for the implementation of the new standard across the airport.
Coordinated and managed consultants like industrial design, structural, electrical, wayfinding, and graphic design throughout the implementation of the project.
