Project Description:

San Francisco International Airport, as part of one of its capital improvement projects, announced the need for a new wayfinding guidance standard to improve and enhance customer/ guest experience. As part of the design team, we looked at the existing signs - directionals, flight information display systems, amenity signs, welcome signs etc, across the airport and developed a new standard that could be deployed airport-wide. The first phase of this project was the design and implementation of the new products in Terminal 2. The new products include digital information display systems called Dashboards, new directional blade signs designed to better withstand seismic conditions, freestanding pylons that can be installed at thresholds and a brand new set of pictograms and messaging hierarchy that is more intuitive for guests to make their way across the airport.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Designed, coordinated and implemented the new wayfinding guidance standard products across Terminal 2 at SFO.

  • Created exhibits for interfacing with a diverse set of stakeholders like DRC, REACH, guest services, landside operations, Terminal systems, Custodial services, SFO ITT and Electric Shop.

  • Executed ADA standards, SF city standards and FAA standards for the implementation of the new standard across the airport.

  • Coordinated and managed consultants like industrial design, structural, electrical and special systems, wayfinding and graphic design through out the implementation of the project.
